The HTC Hero is now available to Sprint customers in the U.S. It is the wireless carrier’s first Android smartphone offering.

The Hero is a touchscreen phone that uses the HTC Sense-based user interface, with 7 sliding home panels and Facebook and Twitter integration. The device also features a large half-VGA resolution capacitive touchscreen display, a 5 megapixel camera and camcorder, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm stereo headphone port, and a trackball controller for those that don’t want to use a finger for scrolling.

With these smartphones boasting full HTML browsers, it’s only natural for Google to pitch its omnipresent AdSense product to mobile publishers in the same way they’ve been promoting AdSense for regular website monetization for years.

The problem was that up until now, publishers were only eligible to serve smaller text and image ads on their website content so far, and these were apparently far from effective enough on high-end mobile phones.

As smartphones gained popularity outside of the business world, a division formed between devices made for consumers (lifestyle smartphones) and those made for enterprise deployments (professional smartphones). Professional devices tend to be more integrable into bigger systems and offer more in the productivity department while lifestyle devices cater more to the individual’s tastes and offer more in terms of entertainment.

Though Microsoft has plenty of consumer smartphones running Windows Mobile, the operating system has found itself on the far end of “Professional,” struggling to appeal to consumers enamored with touch-based operating systems. So Microsoft has worked to make Windows Mobile 6.5 and future versions much more “finger friendly,” without sacrificing their professional capabilities.

Palm Inc.宣布推出一款更轻薄、价格更便宜的智能手机Pixi，这是Palm扭转业务局面的举措之一。

Palm三个月前刚刚推出了智能手机Pre，这款手机被定位成苹果公司(Apple Inc.) iPhone等智能手机的竞争对手。

尽管Palm拒绝透露Pixi的定价，该公司认为Pixi是Pre一个价格较低的替代产品，就好像较之该公司推出多年的款式Treo，Centro是一个更廉价的对应产品。

Palm负责营销的高级副总裁米蒂奇(Katie Mitic)表示，Pixi延续了Pre的成功模式，并且适合那些希望售价更加可承受的消费者。

Palm表示，Pixi将在假日购物季通过Sprint发售。

推出新品Pixi以及下调Pre售价，这是Palm试图夺回流失市场份额的最新举措。该公司此前一直是智能手机领域的领先者，但过去几年却落后于苹果和黑莓制造商RIM等竞争对手。
